Overview

Bocas del Toro is blessed with picture-postcard beaches, world-class surfing, banana plantations, crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and abundant marine life, which inspired the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute to base one of the Caribbean’s leading research stations on Isla Colón. Bocas del Toro is home to two national parks: Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park, home of the largest area of Caribbean mangrove swamp in Panama, and La Amistad International Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, both of which help make Bocas del Toro one of the country’s top ecotourism destinations.

What to See

Isla Colón Beaches – Boca del Drago is widely considered one of the best beaches on the island, as is Playa Bluff, a surfer’s paradise, and Starfish Beach, a protected ecotourism spot.

Isla Bastimentos – Stunning and laidback Isla Bastimentos is home to awe-inspiring Wizard Beach, the most beautiful stretch of sand on the island, and Polo Beach, which is protected by a coral reef. It also boasts Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park, where you will find mangroves, monkeys, caimans, crocodiles, and the best conserved coral reefs in the country.

La Amistad International Park – Experience pristine beauty at the biggest and most remote nature reserve in Central America, which is protected by both Panama and Costa Rica. La Amistad International Park is acclaimed for its biodiversity and is home to animal species found nowhere else on Earth.
